Kybella® injections are a drug that mimics deoxycholic acid, which is a natural substance in the body that helps absorb and destroy fat. While Kybella® has been consistently proven to destroy the fat under the chin, it has not been approved for use anywhere else in the body.
There are a few conditions that you must pass before you can become eligible for Kybella® injections. The drug can’t be given to anyone that has a thyroid disorder, swollen lymph glands in the neck or pregnant.
The entire process of getting Kybella® injections is easy. You will come into our office and we will inject the drug directly into the skin. It may take a series of injections for Kybella® to be effective, so you may have to come back for more injections for several weeks.
Most cases of double chin can be fixed using Kybella® injections in several treatment sessions. Each session may need to be scheduled within one month of each other. If you wait longer than one month to get your next series of injections, then your treatment will not be as effective.
Every session includes getting injections of Kybella®. We will determine the exact amount of injections you need based on your individual case. Prior to the injections, your chin may be given a topical numbing agent. This should help minimize discomfort. Placing an ice pack on the chin is effective for any discomfort you may have after the treatment session.
While Kybella® has been proven to be a safe alternative to surgery, you still may experience a few side effects. The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, or numbness in the treated area.
The discomfort and side effects you may experience with Kybella® are minor compared to cosmetic surgery. Kybella® is a great alternative to a major surgery, so there is no reason to live with that pesky double chin for the rest of your life.
